The US Open: The Premier Tennis Tournament in the United States

Posted on 05. Sep, 2013 by in Tennis

The US Open is the most prestigious tennis event in the United States. It is the 4th and final event included in the Grand Slam. The Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon are the other 3 events of the Grand Slam. This year it runs from August 26th to September 9th and is played at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York. It always an action packed event with a little raucous New York influence.  Here is more information on the tournament.

The reigning tournament singles champions are Andy Murray and Serena Williams.  Murray is seeded number 3 and fresh off his historic Wimbledon win. He was the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry did in 1936. Murray is a very dynamic player and always a crowd pleaser. Serena Williams is seeded number 1.  She is in great form and expected to be a dominate force at the Open this year.

Other players to watch include Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal; the number 1 and 2 seeds. Djokovic lost to Andy Murray in July at Wimbledon and certainly wants a rematch. Nadal, a Spaniard, won the French Open in June and is eager to return to the spotlight. Victoria Azarenka, from Belarus, is seeded number 2. Her last Grand Slam title was at the Australian Open in January. She is ready to become the number one seeded female player in the world.

The 2013 US Open promises to be an action packed, high energy tournament.
