As the most-watched football league in the world, broadcasted to over 4.7 million people and at the very top of the English football league system, also known as the football pyramid, is the English Premier League. The Premier League consists of 20 different clubs throughout England and Wales that work with the league below them, The Football League, to determine which clubs will play for which league that particular year. Clubs compete throughout the season to move up through the leagues, ultimately to the Premier League.

The Premier League season runs from August to May and each team plays 38 games. Most matches are played on weekend afternoons, while others are played during weekday evenings. Each win gives a team 3 points, for a tie they receive 1 point and for a loss it is 0 points. The lowest three clubs at the end of the season are moved down a tier to the Football League to compete for their spot in the Premier League again through championship-style games. The top 4 clubs qualify for the UEFA Champions League play-offs, which is one of the most watched sporting events in the world, topping over 360 million television viewers.  The winning team of the Champions League qualifies for UEFA Super Cup, which determines the teams to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Whenever you are looking to enjoy some great football, the English Premier League hosts some of the top clubs from around England and Wales with some of the most intense competition in the athletic community. Even if you are overseas, you can easily keep up with individual clubs and league positioning online throughout the season and many games are shown throughout the world.
