Second time Is Just as Sweet

What is the greatest phrase in team sports?  Game 7.  We were lucky enough to experience this rare sports commodity in the 2013 NBA Finals, which pinned the San Antonio Spurs against the Miami Heat.  With the series repeatedly going back and forth and both teams exchanging victories and losses the momentum had swung back and forth and come to a climax in the final seconds of game 6.  San Antonio held a 5-point lead with 28 seconds remaining before a Lebron James 3 pointer, a Kawhi Leonard missed free throw and a Ray Allen game tying 3 pointer. This shattered the collective hearts of Spurs fans everywhere.  Allen’s basket sent the game to overtime with Chris Bosh becoming the hero by blocking a potential game tying 3 pointer by Danny Green to seal a 103-100 Heat victory, forcing a decisive game 7.

The game started as much of the series had with both squads exchanging baskets and runs and as the halftime buzzer rang with the Heat holding onto a 2 point lead.  The third quarter displayed much of the same as San Antonio trailed by only 1 point as the fourth quarter approached.  After thousands of games throughout this past year, the entire NBA season came down to these last 12 minutes.  It was put up or shut up time for “the king” and he most definitely put up scoring a game high 37 points while also pulling down 12 rebounds and shooting 5 for 10 from behind the arc.  As well, he knocked down two pull up jump shots that sealed the Heat victory and moreover were a poetic twist on the series as the Spurs had challenged Lebron the entire series to make that 17-18 foot jump shot.  As the final buzzer rang the Heat players, fans and coaches all ran to the court embracing one another as they celebrated their second consecutive championship and their 3rd in franchise history.
