How to Run a March Madness Pool in Your Office

March Madness | XLSportsBlog.comThe lag between sports seasons is finally over. With football behind you, it is time to look toward your next sport: basketball. And if you are like most people, there is only one way to tackle March Madness — with an office pool. But what if no one in your office is running a pool? Well, you can start one. Leadership has to start with someone, and it might as well be you. Here are three steps to navigating the tricky waters of March Madness office pools.

  1. Cast a Wide Net

You are new to this, so you do not want to be too picky. Unless you have a tight-knit group of friends who are ready to join your group, you want to invite everyone so your pool can be as active as possible. The more the merrier, right?

  1. Encourage Participation, Even for Beginners

To be honest, participating in a March Madness pool really does not take a lot of knowledge of basketball, but many of your coworkers do not know that! Tell them that filling out a bracket will only take a few minutes, and afterward they will get to participate in the office fun.

  1. Come Up With a Prize

Does your office allow gambling? Are your coworkers willing to pony up cash? If so, you can arrange for a cash prize for the winner. Otherwise, you might have to get a bit more creative. Make a friendly wager among your colleagues. The winner gets treated to happy hour, or maybe gets a good parking spot for a month. The prize could be as simple as a gift card to the movies. March Madness can be fun by itself, but an incentive really builds energy and excitement.

Just because you are a newbie in your office does not mean you have to be left out of the action this season. Build your team of coworkers and take the lead (and make sure your own bracket is air tight).
