Chances of Your Team Making an NFL Playoff Run

Posted on 12. Dec, 2013 by in NFL

The NFL is quickly becoming more and more competitive.  Teams that have not been historically successful are now vying for spots in the playoffs with those that have seen years of success.  Making an NFL playoff run is much more difficult than the average fan may realize, so it is important to understand how the process works and what your favorite team needs to do in order to make it to the big show.

Hopes to make the playoffs begin early in the NFL season.  With far fewer games than other sports, much more pressure and importance is placed on each individual game.  Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, the picture for the playoffs is taking shape.  Spots have been clinched by both the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos so far, but there are other teams close behind.  The Patriots are battling for the number 2 seed and close their slate with the Dolphins, Ravens and Bills.  The Colts are basically locked into the 4th spot in the AFC because of their loss to the Bengals.  The most realistic options for the number 6 pot in the AFC are the Ravens and the Dolphins.  Although the Ravens face a tough finishing schedule facing the Lions, Patriots and Bengals, they do have the tie-breaker against the Dolphins for their win in week 5.  The Dolphins will face the Patriots followed by the Bills and finally the Jets. For any chance the chargers and Jets both need to win 3 consecutive games for any chance at a NFL playoff run, but will face a very difficult road to accomplish that.

Pay attention to the key matchups in the next few weeks to see if your favorite team has a chance at making an NFL playoff run with the season coming down to a close.  With plenty of football to be played, it’s likely that your team has at lease some chance of making it into the playoffs.
